Extruded Series

“There’s an age old industrial process of extruding clay that people are familiar with from childhood — pressing play-doh through a triangle to see the long prismatic version reveal itself on the other side. I’ve engineered my own large scale extrusion machine — welded from scrap steel, and repurposed industrial parts. Half of my life has been spent constructing or maintaining large machines in heavy industry as a millwright and machinist. Stepping into this niche realm of extruded ceramic has been a natural fusion of my passion for process and affinity for clay. It’s an investigation into my relationship with the mechanized world I’ve participated in. Creating steel parts with precise voids that form a threshold for human intervention, where the soft clay is vitrified into reflective gestures.”
