Pacific Northwest Series

“During a surf trip to Vancouver Island’s Clayoquot Sound region with a friend we spent time exploring the jagged rocks that break the shoreline of the Pacific Northwest, poking in tide pools and collecting stones. We unloaded 100 pounds of clay onto a makeshift worktable back at camp. That's where the first of this series was made —an exploration with the same visual qualities and energy of the tidal biome. Finding harmony in what the environment provides, this series is a celebration of my relationship with the land and an opportunity to observe and listen. The process is slow and meditative —yet gestural, offering time to reflect on the connection between the materials and the forms that they express. The clay and glaze produce details at an infinitely small scale, encouraging the viewer to
slow down and investigate as if they are beachcombing.”
