Pacific Northwest Series
“ During a surf trip to Vancouver Island’s Clayoquot Sound region with a friend, we spent time navigating the jagged rocks that break the shoreline of the Pacific Northwest — poking in tide pools and collecting stones. Bringing along a hundred pounds of clay to our camp, the first of the series was made — an exploration trying to capture the same visual qualities and energy of the tidal biome. Finding harmony in what the environment provides and joyful time with a friend, this series is a celebration of my relationship with the land and an opportunity to observe and listen. The process is slow and meditative yet gestural, offering time to reflect on the connection between the materials and the forms they express. The clay and glaze produce details at an infinitely small scale, encouraging the viewer to slow down and investigate as if they themselves are beachcombing.”
