Unearthed 005

A conceptual interplay between modern aesthetics and material idiosyncrasies. Steel is considered for its engineered qualities - creating refined edges, and clean symmetric form. Its preconceived permanence and durability are called into question by the surface finish; an application of corrosive chemicals eating at the surface. Ceramic is used for its organic qualities, appearing as if it had grown or decayed with time — calling into question the when, where, and how an object like this came to be. The artist's goal with the Unearthed series is to present a blurring of material dichotomies through process and gesture by seeking their root properties and reflecting on our human relationship with the world around us.
